Ad Budget: What Should an Indian SMB Spend?

Origin Pixel Solutions · 13 Jul 2026

"How much should I spend on ads?" is the most common question we get from small business owners in India — and the honest answer is: less than you fear, but with more thought than most people give it. Here is a practical way to decide.

Start with what a customer is worth

Before you pick a budget, work out how much one new customer is worth to you. If a customer typically pays you ₹5,000 and many come back, you can comfortably spend more to get one than a business whose customer pays ₹300 once. Your ad budget should follow the value of a customer, not a number you picked from the air.

Realistic starting budgets

For most local and small businesses in India, a sensible starting point looks like this:

The mistake to avoid is spreading a tiny budget across five campaigns and ten audiences. A small budget needs focus: one clear offer, one or two audiences, one good landing spot.

Google vs Meta — where to begin

A simple rule: if people are already searching for what you sell (a dentist, a plumber, a coaching class), start with Google Ads — you meet demand that already exists. If you need to create interest and show off your product or offer (fashion, food, real estate, events), start with Meta Ads on Instagram and Facebook. Many businesses eventually run both, but you don't have to on day one.

What results should you expect?

Do not expect a flood on day two. The first two weeks are for learning — the platform figures out who responds, and you figure out which message and offer works. By week three or four you should have a rough, real number: what it costs you to get one lead. Once you know that, ads stop being a gamble and become simple maths — spend X, get Y leads, close Z of them.

The part most people skip

Ads only pay off if what happens after the click is solid — a page that loads fast, a clear offer, and someone who replies quickly. We build the ads and the follow-up together, so money spent at the top doesn't leak out the bottom. If you'd like a budget suggested for your exact business, book a free call and we'll map it out.

Quick answers

What's the minimum I can start with?

Around ₹300–₹500 a day on one platform is enough to test properly. Below that, the system struggles to learn and results get unreliable.

How long before I see results?

Usually 2–4 weeks. The first couple of weeks are learning; after that you'll have a real cost-per-lead you can plan around.

Should I run Google and Meta together?

Not at first. Start where your customers already are, prove it works, then expand. We'll advise which fits your business on a free call.
